The initial concept of the E24 was to be a type of replacement for the CS and CSL coupés first produced in 1965. The production of the e24 started in March 1976 with the introduction of two chassis: the 630 CS and 633 CSi. In some early model E24's the bodies were manufactured by Karmann, but production was later taken in-house to BMW. The more powerful analog, the 635 CSi, was introduced July 1978. This e24 featured a close-ratio 5-speed gearbox as standard and a single piece black rear spoiler. The bigger bore and shorter stroke facilitated max 218 hp at 5200rpm and a better torque curve. Needless to say, the e24 is an impressive chassis that turns heads with relative ease.
